Everything You Need to Know Before You Hatch Shipped Eggs

At Harmony Farms, we’re proud to offer fertile, high-quality hatching eggs from our happy and healthy backyard flock. Whether you're a seasoned homesteader or trying your first hatch, we want you to feel confident when ordering eggs from our farm. Here’s everything you need to know about buying and receiving hatching eggs from us.

Our Flock and Breeding Standards

Our chickens are raised with care, free-ranging in spacious pastures and receiving the best nutrition year-round. We breed for strong genetics, friendly personalities, and beautiful feather patterns. Only eggs from active, well-matched breeding pens are collected for hatching. Each egg is:

  • Fresh (never more than 3 days old when shipped)

  • Gently cleaned if needed (we never wash with water, which can remove the bloom)

  • Collected daily and stored correctly before shipping

We aim to give you the best possible start to a successful hatch.

Shipping Your Hatching Eggs

We ship all hatching eggs via USPS Priority Mail to ensure fast delivery, typically 1–3 days depending on your location. Each order is carefully packaged with foam, padding, and labeled as “FRAGILE” and “HATCHING EGGS – DO NOT X-RAY” to protect them during transit.

Shipping details:

  • We only ship within the continental U.S.

  • Tracking is provided once your order ships

  • We typically ship on Mondays or Tuesdays to avoid weekend delays

We do our best to reduce the risks involved with mailing eggs, but it's important to know that shipping can affect hatch rates, even under the best conditions.

What to Expect Upon Arrival

When your hatching eggs arrive:

  1. Open the box carefully and inspect the eggs.

  2. Let them rest, pointy end down, for 12–24 hours at room temperature before incubating.

  3. Set your incubator and prepare for the hatch — we recommend a temperature of 99.5°F (forced air) and 45–55% humidity for the first 18 days.

Hatch Rate Disclaimer

Because we cannot control handling during shipping or your incubation setup, we do not guarantee hatch rates. However, we consistently receive great feedback from customers who follow incubation best practices and allow eggs to settle after shipping.

Tips for a Better Hatch

  • Use a reliable, calibrated incubator

  • Avoid opening the incubator frequently

  • Follow proper turning and humidity guidelines

  • Let eggs rest before setting them
