Goberdoodle Coats & Shedding: What to Expect
Learn about the unique coat types of the Goberdoodle, from wavy curls to straighter fur, and what that means for shedding and allergy concerns.
The Goberdoodle, a one-of-a-kind mix of Siberian Husky, Poodle, and Golden Retriever, inherits a fascinating blend of traits—including its coat. Because each parent breed brings different coat characteristics to the table, no two Goberdoodles look exactly alike, and their grooming needs can vary widely.
What Is a Goberdoodle’s Coat Like?
Goberdoodle coats range from wavy and curly to straighter, medium-length fur. This variety comes from their heritage:
Poodle influence: Tight curls or loose waves, often with a soft, plush feel.
Golden Retriever influence: Dense, medium-length fur with feathering around the legs and tail.
Husky influence: A straighter, thicker coat that leans toward a traditional double-coat.
This combination results in dogs that may look vastly different, even within the same litter. Some Goberdoodles have a distinct “teddy bear” appearance with fluffy, curly fur, while others resemble a more streamlined Husky mix with straighter, easy-to-manage coats.
Do Goberdoodles Shed?
Yes—but how much depends on the individual dog.
Low to minimal shedding: Wavier or curlier Goberdoodles tend to shed less, thanks to their Poodle heritage. Their fur often traps loose hair until brushed out.
Moderate shedding: Straighter-coated Goberdoodles, especially those with stronger Husky traits, will shed more noticeably.
Overall, most Goberdoodles shed less than typical double-coated breeds like pure Huskies or Retrievers. However, they are not considered fully hypoallergenic, and families with severe allergies should keep that in mind.
Managing the Coat
Regular grooming helps keep a Goberdoodle’s coat healthy and comfortable. Brushing 2–3 times a week prevents matting in curlier coats and reduces loose hair in straighter coats. Professional grooming every few months is also recommended for longer or curlier fur types.
The Bottom Line
Goberdoodles bring together the best of three beloved breeds, and their coats are just as unique as their personalities. While they may shed less than many dogs, their grooming needs vary depending on coat type. Prospective owners should be ready for regular brushing and grooming—and plenty of cuddles with their fluffy friend.
